Our board-certified music therapist, Maura Marksteiner will give a presentation on using music to facilitate relaxation and sleep. The goals of the presentation are to help attendees learn to identify appropriate music, create cohesive playlists, and demonstrate three specific strategies for using music in a night time routine. The talk will be targeted for children, but the information is applicable for all ages.
“I want to help educate people on using music in their daily lives. When I became a mother, I would get sleep or relaxation CDs that were supposed to be for babies. These are really common. But when I would listen I knew some of the songs weren’t appropriate or would wake listeners up. People assume that all classical music is for sleeping or good for children. But classical music can be very exciting. And some of it is too complex for sleep or for young children. Like reading Jane Austen’s “Pride and Prejudice” to an infant. Yet, many people want to use music to help their kids sleep. When used well, music can be a very powerful aide. I want to give people information so they can have an idea of what will work.”-Maura
